Caring
& Carrying On

Welcome to our 2020 Impact Report
For a year unlike any other, we are publishing a report unlike any other. We share stories of how our VCA Associates rose to the challenges they faced in 2020 in a professional and compassionate way, putting the health and well-being of our patients and clients first. With our Associates focused on our patients and clients, we focused on our Associates. VCA’s focus was to care for them and equip them with the tools and technology to keep doing what they do best.

VCA Animal Hospitals and Petcare Services

As a Mars Veterinary Health business, we’re doing our part to slow the spread of the virus, put our Associates at the center of all we do and give back to our communities.

From the beginning of the pandemic, our Associates have acted as if each client is their only client—taking extra moments to give reassurances and putting their hearts and souls into everything—despite the incredible circumstances and ambiguity of the year.

Even though I knew in my heart how remarkable VCA Associates are, I’ve seen their inner strength, dedication and creativity to defy all odds and deliver the very best veterinary medicine and support. Because our Associates give us their all, VCA is working hard to improve their lives at work, home and everywhere in between. We’ve been building our Total Rewards package to make the lives of our Associates healthier and support them in ways so they can worry less and focus more on their work, play, friends and families.

Marie Kerl

DVM, MPH, DACVIM (SAIM), DACVECC, MBA
Chief Medical Officer, VCA Animal Hospitals

In my many years practicing veterinary medicine, I’ve come to know this: veterinarians and those who love animals are the greatest people on earth. Their capacity for love and compassion for animals inspires them to work tirelessly to save lives, heal conditions and make the world a better place for pets.

Knowing firsthand the selflessness and dedication involved in caregiving—any year, and even more so in 2020—I know it’s easy to lose sight of personal needs.

I want to emphasize the importance of making our physical, mental and spiritual selves a priority.

As we emerge from the darkest days of COVID-19, I feel so strongly that a bright future lies ahead as we get a glimpse of our post-pandemic lives. I think 2021 is going to be an amazing year to grow and develop together.

WELCOME TO THE
IMPACT REPORT

Kimberly Schrader West

Vice President, Corporate Affairs

2020 was a year of confusion. Struggle. And moments of hope. Caring. Compassion. Simple joys.

In a year that unfolded unlike most in recent memory, our Associates’ dedication to each other, our clients and patients only accelerated. I’m proud to be a part of a team of more than 30,000 Associates who worked around the clock to help families and our communities keep their pets healthy—to keep and spread the joy that comes from the presence of animals.

This last year brought focus to everything we do. For VCA it meant doing our part to slow the spread of COVID-19, innovating new approaches for animal care, supporting our Associates and lifting our communities. I’m hopeful you see our dedication to these principles in our Report.

To the VCA team—you are incredible, this year and every year.
